Tanzania Songwa Peaberry
While Ethiopia and Kenya are the countries that are usually named when talking about African coffees, the coffee from their neighbouring country has up to now been underrated. But Tanzania’s landscape offers excellent conditions, and according to experts, coffee from this country has a definite development potential. This is the reason, why three leading manufacturers in the specialty coffee market established in 2007 Songwa Estates.
The farm is situated about 900 kilometers from Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam, at The Great Rift Valley, and expands over a total area of 59 hectares: 25 hectares are presently being used for the cultivation of coffee, with an additional 8 hectares of land available for expansion. The soil is rich in minerals and nutrients deriving from volcanic eruptions and hot springs dating back over 100 years. The local climate is ideal with warm summers, cool winters and seasonal rains. The 100% Arabica coffee grows on Songwa Estates at approximately 1450 above sea level. The farm uses traditional East African methods of producing green coffee. After pulping, washing and natural fermentation, it is sundried for up to 12 days.
The coffee has a smooth flavor, medium to full body, stone fruit acidity and an excellent fragrance. It is rich in texture and has a dark chocolate finish. It can be roasted at different degrees for filter, press or espresso.

Peanut, caramel, grape & creamy body. Goes down very easily!
Subtle hints of acidity, floral notes with plenty of sweetness balanced with a very smooth malty chocolate tone. Medium bodied, smooth, rich and very clean.
A clean, sweet, multi-layered coffee with hints of nectarine, apricot, melon, and jasmine.
Deep chocolate, caramel and praline notes with intense sweetness.
Milk chocolate, hints of cherry.
Notes of maple syrup, molasses and a slightly bitter aftertaste of dark chocolate.
