Papua New Guinea
100% Arabica Peaberry
This type of coffee, called Peaberry, was the first type of bean that made me fall in love with coffee. It’s a mutation that grows a single bean inside the coffee cherry instead of the usual two. These beans are rare and can only be found by hand-sorting all the beans and picking the Peaberries by hand. This means they are literally hand-selected from hundreds of thousands of other beans during the bagging process.
Since there’s only one bean per cherry, all the flavor is collected in a single bean. As a bonus, Peaberry beans roast better because they roll in the drum. When brewed with a Hario V60, the taste is very gentle, similar to a juicy floral white tea.
This coffee is roasted medium, so it has a moderate caffeine content. If you’re wondering why that is, you can check out our answer to the question “Does darker coffee have more caffeine?” for more information.
